Brookfield, WI – Reworked Existing Exterior Building Sign for Sewer Ninjas

  We have been asked to update an existing building sign for Philleo Insurance in Brookfield, Wisconsin. They have a new tenant, Sewer Ninjas, moving into the building and they wanted their name on the exterior sign.  The sign was put up about 10 years ago and needed some love and attention.  So where do you start with a custom made sign like this?

We started by going onsite and breaking the sign down, component by component. We were able to identify the color of the backer panel, the size and type of standoff, the color and size of each panel and the exact color of vinyl for the individual panels.  We also had to take measurements of the location of each mounting hole.  We also took each panel down and traced them out on tracing paper as each panel was slightly different.  With the Sewer Ninjas sign, the location of the holes was slightly off by almost 1/8″. The existing sign that was up there, was too big and was bowed out in the center because the sign was 1/4″ too long.  We also noticed that the silver vinyl on the old sign was the wrong color. Most people don’t realize that there are 13 different silver colored vinyls and within that, 4 different finishes.  Most of these options look pretty similar until you put them side-by-side.

So now we had all the information from the existing sign, now what? One of my designers sat down and drew up the sign standards. Everything from the exact dimensions, colors, types of vinyl, and the location of the holes.  We created a drawing very similar to what we provide our customers for a new sign.  Now any time that the property owner needs a panel replaced, we already have all the information that we need.  This also shortens the time it takes us to replace a panel in the future.  This definitely took us longer to do than just punching out a sign but this will ensure that the next time they need a new sign we can get it done in half the time.
