Oak Creek, WI – Custom ADA Office Wall Signs for Sudpack with Raised Lettering

Posted in: Client Examples

Talk about dramatic! This new project started as acrylic plaques with raised lettering and braille.  A pretty simple job, until my designers got ahold of it.  We always start by talking to our customers about what they want to achieve.  Because most customers don’t know what is possible with today’s manufacturing processes, their design ideas are limited.  Not so with our designers.

When we talked through the purpose of the signs, we discovered that they wanted to have the ability to change the names on the signs with little effort.  They also wanted a stunning look that would really stand out. And if we could possibly work out how to make the signs ADA compliant, that would be a plus.  I love shopping lists like this one.  My designers started with the standards that apply to any sign that must meet ADA standards.  Those are: matte finish, raised copy (1/8″), braille, and high contrast between the backer material and the raised copy.  Ok. We can do that.  As for the desire to be able to change the name quickly, we came up with placing the information on a poly stripe that by removing the heads of the standoffs will come right off.  So once we came up with the structure now came the hard part.  What to make the face of the sign out of? Again, it had to be eye catching. Really stand out.  My designers decided on using 3030 acrylic. The acrylic has a matte finish and a green appearance especially when you flame the edges.  When we applied the room numbers, we used a special poly that allows us to build up the number to a minimum height of 1/8″ which just so happens to comply with the current ADA standards.  By adding brushed standoffs and the company name in their corporate color and we have a completed sign that meets all of our customer needs.
