Rough Engine Idle

A common cause among Elantra model Hyundais is that the evaporative emission control system has stopped working. However, various other part failures or maladjustments can cause this condition. Using our state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment, we will find and fix the source without delay. Rather than throwing parts at a problem until we find the right one, we will only replace bad components.

Erratic Shifting (Automatic Transmissions)

Often a transmission fluid and filter change will restore a transmission to proper operation. While we have the transmission pan off, we will adjust or replace the bands. Bands connect the gears in an automatic transmission. Transmission bands develop wear or even break with enough miles, causing erratic shifting or a slipping transmission. Another possibility is malfunctioning speed sensors. When a speed signal from the sensors isn’t reaching the powertrain control module, this computer chip won’t control the shifting of gears correctly. With this problem, the transmission may shift erratically or harshly. We will replace a failed speed sensor and get you back on the road with a smooth-shifting Hyundai.

Engine Stalling

This may indicate a car needs a tune-up or a bad sensor. We will check how long it has been since the last spark plug replacement and other tune-up items and update these matters. Our diagnostic code reader will tell us what parts need replacement or adjustment. For example, a worn-out crankshaft angle sensor will cause this symptom and throw a code.

Engine Banging

If you notice a knocking noise when you press hard on the gas pedal and when you get off the gas, the cause is likely faulty engine mounts. We will raise the engine with a hoist and bolt on new engine mounts to return your Elantra to quiet and smooth operation.

Air Conditioning Problems

The air conditioning is a weak point on the Elantra. Blower motors fail at high rates. The indication of a bad blower motor is the air conditioning not working in any setting. Compressor failure is also common. If the heater setting works OK but does not blow cold on the A/C setting, there are several causes, but a bad compressor is the most likely culprit.

Difficulty Steering

We frequently resolve complaints of bad steering and pulling to one side. This could be as simple as needing a wheel alignment, or there may be bent or broken parts in the front end. It is important to get this fixed as soon as possible, as it will quickly wear out your tires and can cause a loss of control.

Loss of Brake Power

If stopping requires more pressure on the brake pedal than expected, a brake inspection at our shop should be accomplished soon. A few conditions common to all cars may cause this, but worn-out brake pads and rotors are the most likely offenders. Elantra brake discs are very prone to heavy rusting. The only solution is to replace both with a better-made component.
