New Illuminated Channel Letter Sign for Kidzville in Pittsburgh, PA

Posted in: Uncategorized

A new company in the North Hills contacted us to help put their name up in lights.  Kidzville, an interactive indoor play space for children with a relaxing coffee shop for parents and caretakers, was retrofitting a space at Mt. Nebo Pointe and needed an illuminated channel letter sign for the exterior wall of their building.

We received an inquiry from the client and we responded promptly to discuss her sign needs. She knew that she needed a channel letter sign with raceway, so we helped her through the different style options that were available to be used with a raceway.  A raceway is a three-sided rectangular box that functions as a mounting mechanism. Many landlords require raceways to be used when tenants decide to install signs because they decrease the number of anchors that are needed to hold the sign on the wall.  This leaves the wall with a cleaner look if the sign is taken down or replaced.

We have a vast experience in designing signs that include raceways, so the landlord’s raceway requirement was no trouble at all.  After our client expressed her vision for the sign, we shared several options for how to bring the Kidzville name and logo to life.  We explored adding different design elements to the letters and discussed options at several price points. The design we landed on was a strong representation of the brand font in a total 23”x11’-2.75” size, with the actual letters being 23” tall, and 5” deep.

The channel letters were fabricated out of aluminum and LEDs were included on the inside of the letter “cans”.  White acrylic letter faces were then connected to the face of each can to complete the shape of each letter.  The letters were then attached to the ‘raceway’, which provided a level backing and helped keep each letter straight.  With the raceway connecting all of the letters, the installation was made simple.

The installation process was quick and easy.  We used a lift to raise the entire sign – letters and raceway – up to the attachment point on the building.  We leveled the sign and secured it with six inch bolts.  Once the sign was mounted, we attached the electrical wiring to the connection point on the inside of the building and then tested the lights.  With the sign working properly, we set the sign’s timer so that the sign would illuminate during the nighttime hours specified by our client.
