Posted in: Videos

There are several reasons for installing frosted vinyl on windows. The most common one is privacy and security. In offices and meeting rooms there is often requirement to keep things confidential and limit what others can see inside the room. Frosted vinyl works great for executive offices and boardrooms so others cannot easily see in to the room, but it still allows light to flow through. You can have solid walls, but that limits the light flow and today’s modern and open concept offices use light to enhance the work environment by having glass instead of opaque walls. One disadvantage with glass is that everyone can see everything. and sometimes you need more privacy and the ability to meet confidentially. This is one instance when frosted vinyl can be used effectively in an office.

Another instance when frosted vinyl is used in offices is for design effects. You can create beautiful designs with frosted vinyl or vinyl that has a design on it. This adds elements of interest to an otherwise bland room.

Frosted vinyl is also used by some on windows and doors in homes. Again, it allows the sunlight in, but doesn’t let people see into the house and affords a lot more privacy than a light curtain.

There are a few things to keep in mind when you are installing Frosted or Clear Vinyl on Windows:

  1. First determine what type of window film you want to use. We use high quality 3M film to ensure the best outcome.
  2. Prepare the windows by cleaning them thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol. Make sure any dirt, grime, glue or previous vinyl is removed entirely. Do not use glass cleaners as it may cause issues with the adhesive.
  3. Once the window is cleaned, ensure it is completely dry by wiping it with a lint free paper towel.
  4. Measure to determine the correct location where the vinyl will be applied.
  5. If covering the entire window, leave an extra 1/2 inch all around. This can be trimmed for a perfect fit once installed. Measure the glass to be covered carefully. If you cut the vinyl too small, you will waste material as you will need to re do it.
  6. Remove the film backing wet it so you can position the film carefully on the glass. Having it wet allows you to reposition if necessary.
  7. Use a professional grade squeegee and work methodically to flatten the film to the surface and eliminate any bubbles.
  8. Go over it once more to ensure all the edges are firmly stuck

Many films have a minimum temperature at when it can be installed. If installing window films on windows facing outside, make sure the temperature is not too low, or else the adhesive will not work and the film will soon start to peel off. The manufacturer can advise on the temperature limits for the window film product.
