Vaughan, ON – What is the difference between Perforated Window Films and Frosted Window Films?

Posted in: Industry News

If you are considering window films or decals there are quite a few options available to you. From perforated window films to frosted window films or even clear or opaque window decals or window clings are all different options available to decorate your windows and advertise your business. But, which one should you use? This is where we can help.  Read on to learn more.

Perforated Window Film

Perforated window film is made from vinyl and essentially have small perforations or ‘holes’ and allow you to print any custom design or advertisement on it and it has an adhesive that allows you to stick it to the exterior window.  Since these are highly customizable, any graphic, logo or advertisement can be printed on it.

One unique feature of a perforated window film is that it allows you to advertise and have passersby view your advertisement, yet not be able to peek inside, although you will always have a clear view of the outside.  This makes it perfect for vehicle windows as well as your storefront. Another application might be where privacy is needed indoors, but you want it to be more colourful than a plain frosted window film.  We’ll get to frosted window film shortly.

If your store or business gets heated up from the sun one additional bonus of a perforated window film is that it reduces the heat penetration to keep the indoors cool.

Frosted Window Film

Whether in an office meeting room or in a swimming pool in a hotel frosted window film provides privacy while allowing natural light to flow through. It also gives the impression and privacy that frosted glass would give, although it is only a film.  Frosted window film is much cheaper than frosted glass making it an affordable option when you need privacy in a room or office. There are also many different styles, designs and opaqueness of the frosted film, making it a good choice for designers.  You can also use it as a decorative window cover for your home or office.

Clear and Opaque Window Decals

Clear window decals are transparent in the areas with no print. You can see through them, however, this may also make the advertisement more difficult to see. Opaque Window decals on the other hand provide limited visibility through the entire sticker, but the sticker advertisement will be more easily visible.  These window decals have a semi-permanent adhesive that allows the decal to stick to the window.  Installation should be done by a professional as moving the decal can be tricky due to the adhesive.

Window Clings

If you don’t want to have adhesives, you can also try window clings.  A window cling is made from a thin vinyl film and as the name suggests it can cling to surfaces like glass.  Many businesses have windows and doors which is great advertising space and as window clings do not use adhesives they can be easily moved and reused.
