Posted in: Industry News

Soar Higher Podcast with Jason Ballard and Co-Host Joel Weiland

In the last part of the Leadership overview, Jason and Joel go through what a leader should be doing to ensure that they are following the road to effectiveness and continuous improvement. Jason recommends that every aspiring leader does the following 4 things:

Ask Yourself, “Does Leadership Interest You?”

This is the first step in exploring your leadership potential. If you don’t have a desire to lead, then the journey will be harder than it needs to be. You’ll likely find yourself feeling frustrated and out of place. But if you do have a desire to lead, ask yourself what it is that interests you about leadership. What qualities do you admire in leaders? What do you think you could bring to the table as a leader?

Perform A Self-Assessment Of Leadership Traits

There are many different leadership qualities and styles. You may be more of a visionary leader or an operational leader. Knowing which traits you naturally gravitate towards can help you identify your strengths as a leader and where you might need to develop further. Some qualities that are essential for leadership include vision, strategic thinking, decisiveness, adaptability, and courage.

Audit Real Moments Where You Succeeded Or Failed In A Role Of Leadership

We all have moments in our lives where we stepped up to the plate and led the charge, and we also have moments where we fell short. It’s important to audit both types of moments to understand what worked and what didn’t work. What did you do in the moments where you succeeded? How did your actions contribute to the success? And in the moments where you failed, what could you have done differently?

Source Feedback From Those That You Lead

One of the most important aspects of leadership is building strong relationships and earning the trust of those you lead. Seeking feedback from people in your network can give you valuable insights into how you are perceived as a leader and what areas you may need to work on. This feedback can come from colleagues, subordinates, or even friends and family. By seeking out this feedback and making a commitment to continuous improvement, you can become a more effective leader in any area of your life.
