Vinyl Wraps Aren’t Just For Vehicles | Los Alamitos, CA

Vinyl vehicle wraps have become increasingly popular for businesses of all sizes that are looking to increase their branding and company awareness. We have even seen this trend translating to the individual consumer looking to personalize their car with a custom graphic wrap. But did you know that the same technology used to design, produce and install these wraps on vehicles can also be used to transform other objects? At Iconography Studios, our vinyl wrap team has seen an increase in wraps being applied to a very wide range of other items including drum sets, pianos, hockey sticks,  ice cream carts, disease testing equipment and more!

A vinyl wrap is basically just a big, custom decal that is printed to fit whatever it is you want to wrap. The process is really quite simple:

1. DESIGN: All graphic wraps start in the design phase.  For vehicles, there are pre-made templates available to help guide the designers with respect to sizing and shape of the wrap. However, with other objects such as instruments, detailed measurements of the items will need to be taken first so that the design team can build their template. At Iconography Studios, all of our in-house designs are custom. While there are pre-fab designs available for purchase, we create all of our images from scratch – often times starting the old fashioned way with pencil on paper.  Once a design has been finalized in our computer design systems, it it ready for production.

2. PRODUCTION: Graphic wraps are printed onto adhesive-backed vinyl wrap material using one of our in-house Roland large format digital printers. The specific type of vinyl and laminate combination we use is often dependent on the shape and surface of the items being wrapped. Some of the adhesive on the vinyls is more aggressive than others, so a differnet vinyl may be used on a flat, metal surface than the one we would chose for a very round, plastic surface.

3. INSTALLATION: The installation process of many of our specialty vinyl wraps is an much an art form as the design process. The material is very stretchy – some of the vinyls will stretch up to six inches during the installation process. Our installers’ experience and training helps them figure out how and when to apply heat and where to make sure the vinyl properly adheres around curves, yet doesn’t stretch too much to distort the design imagery.
