Conference Photographer Shares Experience Traveling to McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago, IL

The conference and convention photographers of Caught in the Moment Photography have been covering group meetings and special events in various venues in the Downtown Chicago Area and at the McCormick Place Convention Center for a number of years and are thus quite familiar on how to get in and around the grater Chicagoland Area. On a recent trip to cover a conference at McCormick Place Convention Center one of the photographers used one of the share ride services to move from Chicago O’Hare International Airport to the conference’s host hotel located next to McCormick Place. Although ride sharing services have long been one of the many options that our photographers take advantage of when providing the photography for various conferences and conventions in various cities around the country; the particular vehicle and driver that was assigned on that particular day provided an experience that was not as pleasant nor as expeditious as if he had taken an alternate form of transportation.
With the Chicago Transit Authority providing train service to Chicago O’Hare at regular and consistent time schedules regardless of time of day, traffic or weather conditions, the alternate forms of ground transportation must really provide something above and beyond to make it worth the several fold difference in cost.
On this particular day, the primary differentiator was that there was a large checked bag that would have been cumbersome to transport onto the train and to and from the train station and platforms. Unfortunately everything that could have gone wrong with the share ride service did as the vehicle’s condition was substandard and the driver was unfamiliar with the route to take. The experience was such that in order to return to the airport at the completion of the conference, the photographer instead opted on taking the Chicago Transit Authority trains rather than chance another negative experience.
