Parkinson’s Resource Center Partners with Cambrian Homecare

April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month and Cambrian Homecare is a strong partner with this prominent support system in the Parkinson’s worldwide community. Jo Rosen founded the Parkinson’s Resource Organization (PRO) 31 years ago when her own husband and mother were diagnosed with the disease and she realized she had no one to turn to for emotional or educational support. She serves as president of the organization and works tirelessly to ensure that resources are available to those dealing with this condition.

What is Parkinson’s Disease?

Parkinson’s is a movement disorder that affects over 10,000,000 million people across the globe and currently has no cure. Rosen created PRO with the mission to work so that no one is isolated because of Parkinson’s. Her organization provides a full range of support opportunities, including an online Wellness Village, emotional support groups and one-on-one counseling with credentialed experts.

What Home Care Resources are Available?

The Wellness Village is a fully vetted directory of companies and other organizations that can provide needed products and services to those living with Parkinson’s, their family members and professional caregivers. Each listing includes a personalized video that affirms the provider’s commitment and caring for those in the Parkinson’s community. The Wellness Village is searchable by geographical location and business type.

Cambrian Homecare has been a partner of Parkinson’s Resource Organization for over 20 years and has worked closely with Rosen and her team to develop specialized offerings for PRO’s constituents. A Caregiver University was the brainchild of Cambrian founder and CEO, Rhiannon Acree. An RN herself, she realized that providing caring and capable homecare to people of all ages was simply not enough. Very often family members are the primary caregivers for those dealing with the physical limitations and mobility issues that Parkinson’s disease can cause. Cambrian’s Caregiver University allows individuals a chance to learn best practices they can use to help their loved ones at home. Respite care is another popular option because it gives the family member who is the primary caregiver to a person with Parkinson’s time to do what they need to do, including self care.

The Importance of Self Care

Jo Rosen believes self care is the single most important thing a person can do, whether they are diagnosed with Parkinson’s, are a family member providing care, or a professional working with those affected by the disease. Stress management, regular exercise and eating healthy are key components to a successful daily routine. The sooner a person who is diagnosed with Parkinson’s reaches a place of acceptance of their situation, the sooner they can begin to act to empower themselves with the education and emotional support that is made easily accessible by Parkinson’s Resource Organization.
