Livermore, CA: The Learning Tree Guide to a Safe and Fun Summer

Posted in: Industry News

At The Learning Tree preschool in Livermore, we can’t wait to share in the summer fun with your kids! Here are a few reminders to help everyone have a great time over the next few months.

Enjoy the rays safely. Make sure your kids—and you, too—always apply sunscreen. If you’re going to be outside for an extended period of time, be sure to reapply every two hours. Wearing long-sleeve, lightweight clothing and a hat can also help protect you and your children from sun damage.

Keep cool. In addition to avoiding sunburn, it’s the time of year when we have to watch out for heat exhaustion. Here are some simple ways to beat the heat:

  • Wear loose lightweight clothes.
  • Stay out of the sun during the hottest part of the day.
  • Water: drink plenty of it, or play in it! Grab a cool shower or bath, or some pool or sprinkler time when you or your little ones need to cool off.

Splash safely. Supervise young children around the water, and use life jackets or floaties when near water. And now is the perfect time to invest in swim lessons!

Don’t get burned at your cookouts. Make sure you keep children away from hot grills and open flames to avoid accidental burns. In addition, remember that small fireworks like sparklers can cause burns. Avoid giving a lit firework to your young children, who may accidentally grab the burning end.

Stings and bites…well, bite. Be sure to apply insect repellent when outdoors. If you’ve been in long grass or in the woods for a walk, also check for ticks. This is another instance when wearing cool, long-sleeve clothing can help.

The most important reminder: have fun this summer! Those of us at The Learning Tree hope you get the chance to explore the great outdoors with your child in the coming weeks. And if you’re still looking for summer childcare, please contact us today. We’d be glad to meet your family!
