There is nothing more bittersweet than watching your child grow up and become more independent. The Learning Tree loves being part of such a beautiful thing. One of the bigger transitions they make is potty training. Here are some helpful tips to make this process easier and quicker on your family:

  • Preparations; Firstly and most importantly, make sure you and your child are ready for this big step. Try and make sure that during this time your child wears loose clothing that is easy to take off when a run to the potty needs to be made.

  • Set a timer; choose an amount of time to remind both of you to go potty. Even if your little one doesn’t need to go in that elapsed time it will be good practice for them to go to the potty chair to use the bathroom. Make sure to be consistent for you and your child.
  • Treats; make up a song, get their favorite book or pick out a new cool toy that they can play with only when the use the potty correctly. Even motivating them with some cool new underwear instead of diapers!

  • Make it fun; Try doing something to make going to the bathroom fun for your child such as dying the toilet water a color with food coloring then after they use the bathroom the color will change because of the mixture in colors. Or buy them a cool potty that brings them joy and entertainment while doing their business.

  • Moral Support; Make them feel proud of their accomplishments. Congratulate and tell them how well they’re doing.
