water damage

Some of the most common problems faced by property owners include water damage, mold growth, and fire accidents. All these problems need to be addressed as soon as possible. This is because water damage paves the way for mold and mildew. Both mold and mildew take their toll on your health, and they result in multiple allergies as well as respiratory issues. Plus, mold also weakens the structure as well as the foundation of your home.

Fire accidents, on the other hand, are disastrous and life-threatening. Furthermore, fire leaves behind smoke and a dark particulate matter called soot, which can cause respiratory issues.

Huntersville, NC – Water and Mold Damage Project at a Condominium Community

Water and Mold Damage

We understand that nowadays it is so hard to find a good restoration company. With several restoration companies claiming to be professionals, it is impossible to trust someone with your property and your money. Most restoration companies do a project and call it a day. However, we do everything we can to address all the queries of the client. When we are assigned a project, we make sure to find the root cause of the issue and eliminate it, so the problem never returns.

The Service Team of Professionals Huntsville, NC, has been around for a long time. During our time as a restoration company, we have had the pleasure of successfully executing a multitude of challenging projects. The good thing about difficult projects is that they help us come out of our comfort zone and expand our understanding about restorative issues and practices.Mold Damage

Recently, we completed a water/mold project at a condominium community in Charlotte.

Water and Mold Damage Restoration Project for a Condominium Community

Recently, an elderly client living in Charlotte’s condominium community got in touch with us as he was struggling with water damage. If you have experienced water damage in your life, you can understand that it tends to worsen if it is not controlled during the earlier stages.

Water damage can lead to mold growth, which is bad for two reasons. First of all, it weakens the structure of your home and jeopardizes its foundation. Secondly, it takes a toll upon your health. Some of the most common symptoms of mold exposure are sneezing, coughing, nausea, headaches, runny eyes, nose and throat, and skin allergies.

Elderly individuals are more susceptible to developing illnesses from mold. So we had to address the problem as soon as possible.

We didn’t go into the project blindly.  We made sure to identify the root cause of water damage before addressing it. First of all, we used our inspective prowess to zero in on the water leaks, and there were a few. We were only able to detect the leaks because of our client who cooperated with us. After identifying them, we fixed all the leaks, which provided the mold ample moisture and dampness to grow. After the leaks were fixed, we started removing the standing water and the mold, which was an arduous task. However, after some time, we managed to get rid of the mold. After the mold was gone, our client breathed a sigh of relief.

The project was challenging, but it was certainly worth the effort. What motivates us the most is the positive feedback that we receive from our clients. We are happy that our client liked our work.

Charlotte, NC – Prevent Water Damage in Your Home with the Tips Mentioned Below

Do you want to prevent water damage in your home? Here is what you need to do.

One of the most detrimental things to the structure of your home is water damage. As negligible as it seems, if water damage is not addressed for a long period of time, it can spread and wreak havoc. Furthermore, if water is not removed, it can cause mold growth. Mold ruins the structure of a building as well as the health of those who reside within. Getting rid of water damage also doesn’t come cheap, and it costs you a lot of money. In the following paragraphs, we will discuss ways to prevent water damage in your home.Fixing

So, let’s begin.

Regularly Check the Faucets and Hoses

The first thing you must do to prevent water damage is to check the faucets and hoses regularly. These include, in particular, the hoses leading all the way up to your refrigerator, washing machine, and dishwasher. Doing so, you will detect the cracks and leakages if there are any. If you notice any cracks through which water can seep, make sure you replace the hoses as soon as possible.

Check Your Tubs and Showers

Next on our list is checking your showers and tubs regularly. More importantly, check the caulking around your showers and tubs. The caulking surrounding the showers and the tubs should be completely airtight. If you notice any cracks in the caulk, have it fixed as quickly as possible. Caulk isn’t very costly and prevents the water from seeping through.

Shut Off the Water Main

When pipes burst, they cause water damage. If a pipe bursts, you should be able to shut down the supply of water. By shutting the water main, you can quickly stop the flow of water, thus minimizing the chances of water damage.

Invest in Floor Pans

Electrical appliances can be vulnerable to leaks. This is where floor pans can come in handy. These pans can be placed near refrigerators, air-conditioners, washing machines, water dispensers, and dishwashers. They cannot prevent leakage, but they can keep water from coming into contact with wooden flooring and other house materials, thus reducing water damage.

Make Good Use of Water Alarms

A water alarm works just like a smoke alarm. The presence of water triggers this alarm and notifies you when there is a leak. You can place these sensors in basements, laundry rooms, bathrooms, and kitchens. You can even put them right next to the sump pump.

Sometimes, due to a lack of technical expertise, we fail to understand the signs of water damage. This is where we should seek help from a reputable water damage restoration company in Charlotte, NC.

Charlotte, NC – Common Causes of Sewage Backup and Ways You Can Prevent It

Are you aware of the causes of sewage backup and ways to prevent it? If not, then keep reading.

A clogged sewer line or pipe can lead to sewage backup. In most cases, clogs take a considerable amount of time to build up. However, in some cases, they can build overnight. The wastewater in your sinks, toilets and bathtubs fails to flow away when there is a clog. Therefore, they start to fill up, thus causing a nasty sewage backup. If the sewage backup gets out of hand, you will need to call professional plumbers and a restoration company to avoid and prevent water damage. Toilet

In order to prevent sewage backups in the first place, in the upcoming paragraphs, we will discuss the causes of sewage backups and ways to prevent them.

Causes of Sewage Backup

  • Throwing the wrong things down the drain is one of the primary reasons behind a sewage backup. A drain shouldn’t be taken for granted and treated like a garbage can. Never through greasy substances down the drain, as they harden with time, and result in a clog.
  • Tree roots can be disastrous if they grow into your sewer lines. Roots can travel far and wide and can be detrimental to your sewer lines, even if you don’t have trees near your home. If they end up in your sewer line, they can result in a sewage backup.
  • Some of the most common materials used to make your sewer lines are cast iron, PVC and clay. The material used for your sewer lines says a lot about the age of your home. Older homes usually have clay or cast iron piping. Despite their durability, these materials cannot last forever. With time, sewer pipes tend to deteriorate, and a time comes when they collapse. If damaged sewer pipes aren’t repaired on time, they result in sewage backup.
  • In some places, connecting downspouts to storm sewers is risky and illegal. During snow melts and rainfalls, a considerable amount of water flows through the pipes. The purpose of a sanitary sewer is the removal of a small amount of wastewater from your home. By sending rainwater to sanitary sewers, you can increase the chances of a sewage backup.

Ways to Prevent Sewer Backups

  • As discussed above, do not pour oily substances down the drain. When these substances cool down, they tend to harden, thus resulting in a clog. With such stubborn clogs, a sewage backup is meant to happen.
  • Don’t make the mistake of connecting sump pumps and downspouts to sewer lines.
  • The sewer lines should be cleared after a few years. Clearingremoves solid materials, which result in clogs.
  • The sewer lines should be inspected regularly. This inspection can help you identify cracks or any other problem.

Huntersville, NC – Water Damage Repair Services for Homeowner | Restoration News

Client Example | Water Damage Repair Services for Local Resident

Service Team Of Professionals – STOP Restoration Charlotte North performed water mitigation services at a private residence recently near Huntersville, NC due to a bathtub overflow in the bathroom on the second floor.

The Assessment – Using industry approved professional grade moisture meters, infrared cameras, and visual inspection the assessment was completed to determine our path and methodology for mitigation.

The Mitigation Plan

An “Emergency Mitigation Plan” was completed using the IICRC (Institute for Inspection Cleaning & Restoration Certification) industry standards of professional grade equipment for water extraction, dehumidification and air movement. These standards determine the type and amount of equipment required to successfully mitigate the water damage. Upon completion of the necessary legal paperwork, and approval of the residence owners, work began under emergency conditions.

The Insurance Adjuster

STOP Restoration is trained in working with the Insurance industries and supporting the ever changing rules and regulations. STOP will work with both the residence owners and the insurance adjusters to ensure the work is done safely, professionally, and cost effectively. The insurance adjuster will typically issue the settlement check to the residence owners for the mitigation costs of workmanship and equipment usage. Upon completion of the water mitigation STOP Restoration was paid for services rendered. STOP Restoration can  also provide a list of local contractors to assist for rebuilding and/or replacement of the damage materials.

The Monitoring Progress:

After removal of the commodes and flooring in both the bathrooms, and the setup of our previously mentioned equipment, the monitoring of our progress began. We took daily readings of the temperature, humidity and moisture content of the bathrooms and documented this accordingly. We had to install a vapor barrier (professional grade plastic) on the second floor bathroom doorway as the dehumidifier was pulling negative air pressure from under the hung door from the house, slowing the drying process. After two days of drying, the second floor bathroom moisture readings were within professional standards, and therefore we removed our equipment. The first floor bathroom took another  day to meet moisture standards, and again we removed our equipment. We applied a FDA approved “green botanical” plant based anti-microbial agent to ensure no mold or other pathogens could propagate.

The Completion:

The residence owners are very pleased with the work STOP Restoration Charlotte North completed. We received 10 out of 10 in all categories of our customer satisfaction survey. We wish the residence owner all the best and a very heartfelt “Thank You” for calling STOP Restoration Charlotte North.
