Houston, TX – What Types of Office Mail Is Recyclable in Commercial Recycling?

Posted in: Client Examples

As the saying goes, the mail will be delivered through rain or snow, no matter what the weather. Even in this age of technology, magazines, pamphlets, packages, and other types of mail are still being delivered. So what can be done with the mail? Does it all go in the trash to head to the landfill? Or are there other options? Fortunately, not all mail is junk and can be recycled.

Recyclable Mail

Knowing what kind of mail is recyclable is relatively easy because almost all mail can be recycled. The junk mail received the first time around can come back again to offices as magazines, copy paper, or cardboard. Recycling mail is one way that office recycling programs can do their part to ensure less is wasted and sent to landfills.

Types of Recyclable Mail

Paper envelopes and content: Paper mail sent in paper envelopes can all be recycled fairly easily with no prep required, stamp, label, and all. Even if this type of mail has paper clips, post-its, or staples, it can all still be thrown into the recycling bin. As long as paper mail has no laminations or foils, it needs just be thrown into the recycling bin, easy as that.

Paper envelopes with windows: Mail with transparent address windows can still usually be recycled. Most Recycling companies have the capability to remove these windows in the pulping process, so this type of mail can be recycled. However, to make the process easier, best practices could include simply ripping off the address window before tossing it into office recycling bins.

Cardboard: Corrugated cardboard, the kind with the wavy middle layer, can always and should always be recycled. Consider how to best prep cardboard boxes for recycling. Be sure to keep it clean and free of spills or contamination and break it down.

Magazines and Cardstock: Even glossy magazines and cardstock mailers are recyclable. Remove any inserts or plastic wrap before recycling.

Most mail can and should be recycled to reduce office waste. Contact Mission Recycle to find out more about recycling pickups and office recycling programs.
