Houston, TX – How to Prepare Your Commercial Roofing For Hurricane Season

Posted in: Special Offer

tpo roof houstonIt may be another busier than average hurricane season for those in and around the coastal areas.  Hurricane season begins around June 1st and lasts all the way until November in certain areas of the country.  Even if you aren’t in an area that can be directly impacted by a hurricane, the threat of high winds, rain, and even tornadoes can impact you due to the uptick in hurricanes. With the threat of hurricanes looming, it’s best to be sure your commercial roof is prepared to withstand even the storms.  Keep in mind these tips to prepare for hurricane season.

Trim Trees

During any storm, trees can cause significant damage when branches, or even the whole tree, fall down on commercial roofs and buildings.  Trim any tree branches that are near to or overhanging the roof.  Specifically, look for dead or oversized tree branches that can be broken easily during a hurricane.

Regular Maintenance

Addressing key areas of concern before they become larger problems is a great way to make sure any commercial roof is ready to withstand winds and rain.  Commercial roofing companies can schedule regular maintenance to inspect the roof and make any necessary roof repairs before hurricane season begins.  Commercial roofers can perform a thorough inspection of high areas of concern during hurricanes such as the remembrance, flashing, mounting equipment, gutters, and downspouts.  For the most efficiency, you can even schedule two inspections per year, once before hurricane season and once after.

Prep Gutters and Drains

Before the torrential rains come, it’s best to prepare gutters and drains to be able to handle the heavier than normal flow of water.  Clean out the gutters of all leaves and debris.  Ensure drains are connected properly and not blocked.  Any type of blockage can cause water to back up onto roofs, usually leading to required roof repairs.
