Why is synthetic oil more expensive? Is it really worth it? What’s the benefit of synthetic oil? These are all great questions. Synthetic oil is made of artificial compounds such as a base oil, carrier oil, and powder additives. Here are some things to keep in mind when considering synthetic oil.

Clean Oil Product

Synthetic oil is extremely clean and offers superior lubrication for auto engines.

More conventional oils are more refined and can contain impurities such as waxes or sulfur. Synthetic oil is processed and refined for a cleaner final product. It is the best option long term as it is resistant to oil breakdown and provides more engine protection than other oils can offer.

Withstand All Temperatures

Synthetic oils can easily withstand higher temperatures than more conventional oils without oxidizing or breaking down. Convention oils have a limit of between 250-300 degrees, while synthetic oils can handle temperatures of up to 450 degrees or higher. Some synthetic oils can even handle temperatures of 700 degrees. This oil type is ideal for hotter climates or heavy-duty engines. But synthetic oil is only made for hotter temperatures. It can also function just as optimally in lower temperatures as well, such as anywhere between -40 and -50 degrees, which is when conventional oils begin to thicken.

Because synthetic oil will freely flow in a range of temperatures, it is a great option for reducing the wear and tear on vehicles, leading to fewer auto repairs or trips to a local car mechanic in 77018.

Less Boil Off

Finally, synthetic oils will also have less boil-off than conventional oils.

Conventional oils lose about 30% of their oil when an engine runs for 6 hours at 400 degrees, whereas a synthetic oil will lose only about 4% under the same conditions.

While synthetic oils cost more to manufacture, thus costing consumers more to purchase, it is easy to see why it is worth the extra money to put synthetic oil into any vehicle.
