Houston, TX – The First Things You Need to Do When Your Car Won’t Start

Posted in: Special Offer

Starting your day with a car that won’t start can be a very frustrating experience.  While it probably doesn’t happen very often, when it does, it may mean it’s time for vehicle maintenance.  Here are some common problems that could be the cause of a car that isn’t starting up right away.

No Sound or Noise

When you insert the key and turn the ignition to start the car, what do you hear?  If the answer is “nothing”, then most likely the problem lies with the battery.  An old or dead means the car won’t crank or turn over at all.

Clicking Sounds

Another sound your car may make is a clicking noise when you try to start it. Again, this could be related to the battery.  It could be a dead battery, bad battery, or loose or corroded cable connections.  The first step if you suspect the battery is to clean and tighten the battery connections. Then, it’s always worth a try to jump-start the car first.  If you can get the car to start, drive it straight to an auto mechanic in 77018 to have the battery checked out immediately.  If necessary your auto mechanic can replace a bad battery with a new one.  If the car won’t start after trying to jump it, unfortunately, it could be an alternator or starter problem.  If this is the case, your car may require towing to the nearest car repair shop.

Cranks But Doesn’t Start

Unfortunately, if the car cranks over but ultimately won’t start, the problem can be much harder to diagnose.  In the colder months, a frozen fuel line could be the cause.  In wet conditions, wet spark plugs can cause a car to not start up properly.  When in doubt, let a trusted auto mechanic have a look.

One of the best ways to prevent walking out to a car that won’t start is to invest in preventative maintenance.  When your car is regularly maintained, an auto mechanic will check the battery as well as the starter, alternator, spark plugs, to be sure everything is in proper order.  To schedule a regular maintenance check, contact Liberty Garage today.
