Sign Permit Problem?

Posted in: Industry News

When our commercial real estate client suggested that one of his tenant’s, a well renowned restaurant, wanted to add an additional sign to the exterior pole we began researching the sign code for that particular city. After completing our site survey our concern was that the existing sign, a lighted and partitioned sign cabinet, could not be modified in such a way as to attach an additional sign. Furthermore, the weight of the additional sign and wind load would also be factors. When we spoke with the permit department we found that the existing cabinet sign panels could be changed to eliminate and update obsolete signs from prior tenants and that the swapping out of the sign face would require a permit. We were also told that the existing sign cabinet had been “grand-fathered in” and was no longer compliant with the current sign code.

At the moment it appears that getting the additional sign added to the pole would be unlikely, although the restaurant is somewhat of an institution in this particular city. We crossing our fingers and toes and working diligently to find a solution. We’ll keep you posted on our progress.
