Oakland, CA – BART ADA and Fire Safety Sign Project Bid for FOCON, Inc.

Posted in: Industry News

SignWorks is pleased to know that our long term relationships with FOCON, Inc. and Turner Construction will allow us to bid on a new BART Headquarters renovation project.  Although this will not be a direct bid to Turner Construction it will be our third major project with them even though through another party.  And, as for FOCON, this will represent a total of four direct projects, typically City of Oakland school renovations, and several others where we supplied ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) and dimensional signs directly via Cahill Contractors based on installation work supplied by Focon, a trusted subcontractor.

The sign package consists of a variety of ADA room signs, some with frame rails on the sides and others with them placed top and bottom, along with three evacuation maps and several blade mounted fire extinguisher signs. There are over 100 signs in total in varied sizes.  SignWorks uses several vendors to do custom ADA signs, especially those requiring a specific paint color or match and the process takes 15-20 business days to complete after the approval of the submittal drawings.  This BART project will like take a year or more and the client will likely want to order samples of many of the sign types.

ADA Tactile and Braille Signage Code have a wide-ranging civil rights impact and prohibits discrimination against persons with disabilities.  It ensures that these individuals have access to public buildings, so contractors need to make sure that the signs they use come from a reputable source and are compliant with ADA guidelines.

ADA signs are everywhere you look including restrooms, stairwells, classrooms and room numbers, as well as parking stalls. This means that companies like SignWorks who know how to satisfy these regulations are often a first choice for building and construction companies needing ADA compliant signs.  ADA signage have improved in appearance over the years to be more visually and aesthetically appealing.

If you are a building owner or contractor in the market for ADA compliant signs, or if you need help understanding the guidelines, just give us a call at (510) 357-2000  and a knowledgeable staff member will assist you.  To learn more about us please visit our website.  While you’re there take a look at our blog posts and photographs.  We are your one-stop source for ADA signs, evacuation maps and tenant and building signs of all types.
