Oakland, CA –Evacuation Map Project for Epic Charter School Nears Completion

Posted in: Industry News

SignWorks is happy to report that our evacuation map project for Epic Charter School in Oakland is almost done.  Four of the 14” by 14” Evacuation maps were missing details regarding where the new alarm pull stations were going to be located in the smaller building, but that information was confirmed today.  We have already installed the remaining 35 maps in the main building to include all the exits, stairs and classrooms to ensure compliance with the Oakland Fire Department Guidelines.

As with all our evacuation map projects we send a technician to do a site survey noting where the maps are needed an mapping out where things like the extinguishers, alarm pull stations, etc. are located as well as detailing the egress or exit pass.  The requirements include specific widths for corridors and text, as well as the specific symbols that must be used.  Once the layout is approved by the client we order map copies for our clients to take to the City of Oakland Fire Department for approval.  Once approved, any minor corrections are made and the printed maps are manufactured to a very high standard requiring a non-glare acrylic lens (for safety reasons) and a thin Styrene backer for a more professional look.

We are delighted to report that we already have the last four maps in production and should be able to install them next week bringing another evacuation map project to a close.  We just took in another large evacuation map project for the Police Building in Oakland, which is likely one of the more complicated buildings we have done a site survey for and will likely require a second visit to evaluate symbol placement and egress routes.  We hope that when (and if) your building requires fire safety signs and/or evacuation maps, that you will give us a call at (510) 357-2000.   We can offer you the technical expertise you need in this area.  You are welcome to visit our website to peruse some of our fire safety and evacuation map project photos and blog posts.
