Center for Jewish Life, Palo Alto, California
Architects – Steinberg Architects

Sometimes Mother Nature just gets in the way!  We are planning a major installation for one of our repeat client’s, Oshman Family Jewish Community Center (OFJCC) in Palo Alto.  The project involves hanging four gigantic banners along the front of their Taube Koret campus building.  When we first booked the 60 foot articulating lift for the installation, the weather forecast was clear, weeks later and it seems rainy weather is getting in the way.  We know our client won’t be happy if there is a delay but we can’t risk our crew working at those heights in the rain.

It seems that this is the nature of any business that involves installation and working outdoors.  All the planning and project management skills can still be dashed by elements that are beyond human control.  It means that some time will be spent looking at the Palo Alto weather metrics to see if there are two consecutive dry days predicted over the next few weeks.  It will mean speaking to the team and gauging their confidence in completing the install in one day vs. the two we had originally budgeted.  It has meant calling the client and resetting expectations regarding what the weather will allow.

Fortunately, we were able to use some of the time to remove the old banners that were there, so the lift was put to good use for some of the time before the rains began.  We will be rescheduling the crew based on the availability of team members who are comfortable working at those heights! We’ll keep you posted on our progress.

The OFJCC Taube Koret Campus for Jewish Life features a sports and wellness center, café, and premier event venue.  OFJCC offers education and social opportunities for Jewish people, young and old alike, to learn and grow in their understanding of Jewish and Russian faith.  They are exposed to Jewish history, culture and the arts.

SignWorks has been working with building owners, property managers and contractors for years and helping them to negotiate the challenges of large building signs.  We welcome your calls to (510) 357-2000 to discuss your new or replacement signage project.  To learn more about and our fabulous team, visit our website to view some of our recent projects and blog posts.  Your feedback is appreciated!
