Hayward, CA – DiBond, the Exterior Go-To Metal Panel Sign Substrate

Lots of exterior signs call for a metal substrate, especially when it comes to exterior signs that can hold up to the elements and last a very long time.  In the sign industry we use lots of aluminum sheeting material to make these signs and will use heavier gauge metal sheeting if the span of the sign is fairly large.  This will prevent the sign from bowing when a thinner gauge metal like .40” is used.  We certainly don’t want clients to complain that their sign is bowing or waving after a relatively tame, but windy day!

Heavier gauge metals, like .080 and .125 will offer the rigidity that is needed but is heavier and more awkward to work with than a metal composite like DiBond.  The aluminum composite product is comprised of very thin aluminum sheeting (two sheets) that has a corrugated plastic core.  This means the material is extremely light weight but very rigid!  This combination is perfect for post and panel signage that is being mounted between posts, or for signs attaching to an above ground fascia that must be lifted into place.

At SignWorks we have worked with a variety of clients and used DiBond as the substrate even where the plans and specifications called for them to include dimensional lettering.   The sign we did for BoxIt in Alameda included both a logo and lettering in 3D raised plastic on a metal pan face.  Others, like the post and panel sign for La Terra Fina did not.  And, DiBond is a more cost effective alternative to heavier gauged aluminum sheeting material.
