Over the years SignWorks has helped large and small businesses throughout the Bay Area to select exterior signage for their buildings.  Many clients come to us with the selection already made and with art files representing the logo and lettering that will be used.  Others need to review all the options available to determine which best fits their style and the location.

Often businesses requiring nighttime visibility, especially banks and grocery stores, will select illuminated channel letters or sign cabinets with the business name and logo.  Many of the particulars, including the lettering size, font, color and other details are formulated by a corporate marketing department responsible for corporate branding and messaging.  Larger restaurant chains, depending on the corporate branding choices, will also use illuminated channel letters or sign cabinets.

Smaller businesses, such as attorneys, insurance agents and dental offices will generally start with an exterior post and panel sign, coupled with an exterior dimensional letter sign or a metal building sign with vinyl graphics for the name and logo attached directly to the building.

Larger business concerns who don’t need visibility at night, usually opt for larger channel letters or dimensional letters in acrylic, formed plastic or metal, which are then mounted to the building fascia.  As we have discussed previously, the dimensional letter choices are varied and will include flat cut, fabricated and cast metals, as well as formed plastic and acrylic.  A variety of custom metal finishes are also available and our wholesale supplier, Gemini, offers a lifetime warranty on their lettering and logos.

Attaching building lettering to large building facades requires special equipment including large boom trucks or specialty lifts.  The site surveys for such projects become an essential part of a more detailed project management process.
