Union City, CA – Exterior Dimensional Building Sign for Chef’s Warehouse

We were first contacted several months ago by the Chef’s Warehouse designer to replace an existing exterior building sign that had been improperly fabricated by others.  The previous company had improperly interrupted the specifications, but because the client was preparing for their grand opening at the new location in Union City, they decided to erect the sign, even though the finish was incorrect.  SignWorks, Inc., Hayward CA was happy to work with the folks at Architexture Group in a process that has taken about three months so far.

We conducted a detailed site survey and connected with our fabricator to design, layout and fabricate the exterior building logo sign pictured above.  The sign is mounted to the frontal glass panels of the building using VHB tape and industrial strength epoxy.  The logo sign which measures 83.58” wide and 84” tall, is constructed of 2” foam with a resin finish to emulate a shiny acrylic look, while being light weight enough to attach to the glass front panels on the building face.  The fabrication process alone took about six weeks.

Since our wholesaler was concerned about damage during shipment a special crate was built to ensure that no damage would occur during shipment.  At our end we had to engage extra bodies just to unload the crate!  Due to a slight elevation at the install site the scissor lift we had ordered had to be replaced by an articulating lift which is less sensitive to sloping terrain and whose basket (or bucket) can be easily relocated from one spot to the next on the building face.

The next phase of the project involves placing the two post and panel signs denoting the delivery and visitor entrances.  These 4 ft. wide signs were fabricated in house and we will do a separate blogpost about those once they are complete.  At present we are waiting for PG&E to confirm the location of the underground utilities so that when we dig the post holes for the signs we don’t unwittingly create a disaster.
