Emergency Evacuation Signs Ensure Safe Buildings in San Francisco, Oakland

Posted in: Industry News

Emergency evacuation signs are just one of many items on the installation checklist for any commercial renovation project, and one of the most complicated to produce. SignWorks, Inc, Hayward, CA designs, produces and installs so many evacuation maps every year, customers can confidently check that task off the list with little personal effort.

SignWorks is managing two current evacuation map design and printing projects, one in San Francisco and the other in Oakland. Each city has its own requirements, typically resulting in far different finished sizes. In this case, the Oakland project includes eight 14”x 14” maps while the San Francisco project is made up of seven 15”x24” evacuation signs. Maps for businesses located in San Francisco are significantly larger because the city has very specific size requirements for the text and symbols used. San Francisco and Oakland both require that evacuation maps be reviewed and approved by fire department officials prior to fabrication.

SignWorks is proud to have managed evacuation map projects for many businesses in San Francisco including 75 Hawthorne (contracted by Turner Construction) and Victoria’s Secret Union Square (contracted by O’Neil Langan Architects of New York).

Oakland businesses we’ve worked with include two schools, the new Oakland Airport Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) station (contracted by Turner Construction), FedEx Distribution Building (contracted by Rentenbach Construction), the 80 Swan Way office building (contracted by LCB Associates & Redwood Mortgage Investors), Meritt Crest Homeowners Association, Black Oak Properties and Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.

We have also produced evacuation maps for Garden Court, a small boutique hotel in Palo Alto.
