Oakland Soul’s Restaurant Sign letters Replaced By Lena’s Soul Food

In a world of Internet-driven marketing, personal referrals are still among the most important sources of business for SignWorks, Inc., Hayward, CA. Nine years after installing new dimensional letter signs for Soul’s Restaurant, SignWorks was recently called upon to replace them with signs for a new owner, Lena’s Soul Food Restaurant, Oakland.

The project included two signs, both done in ½” thick acrylic letters: a silver metallic set for the front and a black set for the side entrance. Once the sign was designed and the layout approved by the customer and the City of Oakland, SignWorks scheduled installation and waited for delivery from our wholesale sign letter supplier, Gemini. Holes left in the masonry by the first sign were carefully repaired before using a hammer drill and paper pattern to bore holes for the new sign. Clear caulk was used to secure the new sign’s metal studs to the wall, ensuring an attractive and long-lasting installation.

Lena’s Soul Food Restaurant serves the traditional soul food dishes offered cafeteria style at their original location, Lena’s Soul Food Café on High Street, in an expanded menu at their new full service dine-in location on Foothill Blvd. Lena’s was named the #1 Black-Owned Restaurant in Oakland by BBnomics Crowd Funding last year.

Lena’s was established in honor of Lena Mae Andrews by her five children, who each learned to cook complete soul food meals by the time they were teenagers. Preparing food for seven people every day was no small task and Mrs. Andrews was both resourceful and forward-thinking in teaching all her girls and boys how to cook for their family while also building a skill they now use to delight their restaurant customers.
