Amazon®, Instacart®, Starbucks® drive-thru windows – as consumers, we’ve come to expect fast, convenient delivery of everything from electronics to groceries. When it comes to highly custom, hand-crafted items like signs, however, two weeks is a more realistic expectation than two days. When customers need a sign produced in under two weeks, SignWorks staff works hard to meet whatever deadline is requested, keeping in mind the many challenges that can delay any sign project at each step in the process.

One recent example is a construction project identification sign we produced for Millie & Severson General Contractors, Pleasanton, CA. The order for an 8’ x 4’ metal sign, placed on a Friday in January, was needed for an event being held in ten days. On Wednesday, half-way into the original project timeline, the customer realized we’d been given the wrong date–they needed the sign three days sooner.

As the clock ticked toward the crucial deadline, we realized the customer had not saved the digital graphic art file correctly, increasing the download time from several minutes to several hours. Due to the unexpected glitches, SignWorks staff worked overtime to print the artwork, mount the printed vinyl on a Dibond® aluminum composite panel and be ready when the customer came to pick up the sign at our shop in Hayward, CA on Saturday.

The event was a big success–more than 120 visitors attended, eager to learn more about the new manufacturing facility being constructed in Manteca for 511 Tactical by Millie & Severson, a licensed general contractor since 1945. Millie & Severson specializes in medical and commercial office buildings, industrial, institutional, healthcare and other business sectors. According to an October 16 business article in the Modesto Bee 5.11 Tactical will consolidate its existing Irvine, Modesto and Lathrop locations into the new 4,000 square foot Ops Center facility in Manteca this year.
