Custom Safety Sign For Lawrence Berkeley Lab!

Posted in: Industry News

Product: Vinyl Graphics

Location: Berkeley, CA

Client: Lawrence Berkeley Lab

We were contacted by a staff member at Lawrence Berkeley Lab whose client needed a custom safety sign made in the shape of a stop sign.  He needed a way of alerting staff members not to enter a specific area because it would trigger an audible alarm sound.

Safety signs come in a variety of shapes and sizes.  Some mandated by government agencies such as OSHA and others who ensure the proper precautions are taken to assure workplace safety and prevent hazards in the workplace.  These signs often warn of danger and the correct procedure for handling such things as hazardous materials.  Other signs of this type can be seen every day on our road-ways and jobsites where the signs are placed to keep workers safe.  Safety signs represent a broad category when it comes to signage, but often the safety sign needs to be customized to the specific situation which was the case for this particular sign.

The SignWorks designer got to work in creating a proof for the client to review and confirm that the bold font style and red and black lettering was exactly as the client wanted.  Once approved the vinyl was printed, cut and mounted to the PVC substrate.  Since this was going to be an indoor sign 3mm PVC was a good material choice.  The 10” Stop Sign would later be shipped to the client for mounting at their location.  An important factor, even for a small sign and especially for safety signs, is that they be legible and easy to read.

The Lawrence Berkeley National Lab is part of the Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science that is managed by the University of California at Berkeley.  One of several national labs, this one focuses on reducing the threat of a nuclear catastrophe here in the U.S.

Are there safety standards that need to be articulated at your place of business?  Are you a restaurant owner needing to ensure that employees follow certain standards when handling food?  Do you need to find better ways to convey proper procedures for handling or disposing of hazardous and nonhazardous materials?  If you need help with any of these sign types then simply give SignWorks a call at (510) 357-2000.  We can help you sort through the requirement or come up with a custom solution that communicates what needs to be said in a concise and effective manner!
