Dimensional Letter Lobby Signs for The Bancorp in San Francisco

Posted in: Industry News

Product: Dimensional Letter/Logo Sign, Custom Directory & Plaques

Location: San Francisco, CA

Client: The Bancorp

We were contacted by senior staff at the Bancorp in Wilmington, DE regarding a custom dimensional lobby sign for a location in San Francisco.  The bank was partnering with Commerce Labs and other partners and opening a facility which would house multiple partners at one location.  This banking coalition housed in the same structure would feature the Commerce Labs logo and branding and a series of plaques like identifiers for the joint tenants.  The main sign needed to be sleek and edgy to fit a modern industrial looking space while still preserving the brand, font, and overall color scheme.

The Bancorp is a trail blazer in the financial services arena.  They specialize in private label banking and technology to non-bank companies.  With over 100 private label nonbank partners, they provide 75 million in prepaid cards and over $232 billion in annual transaction volume

Our designer was told to think metallic, glass like and edgy!  We developed a few concepts but in the end the client opted to stay with the corporate colors and branding while adding additional orbs above the lettering to give the 1” thick acrylic dimensional lettering a whimsical quality which, when combined with the plaque like structure below it, allowed for the recognition of each additional partner in the space.  The name plaques were made of clear acrylic (8 ½” tall by 19 ¼” wide) over a brushed aluminum vinyl backer mounted to the wall with black stand-offs.  The partner name was then mounted to the face of the plaque, five in all of which two were left blank for future partners.

After a fairly lengthy design phase we had the approval to move forward with production.  This consisted of fabricating the plaques in house and ordering material from a local acrylic supplier in San Leandro.  We also ordered a 20” by 25” slated changeable suite directory in brushed aluminum and black from another supplier, which we then lettered with each tenant name.  In addition we ordered the custom dimensional logo/letter sign from Gemini, a leader in the manufacture and production of dimensional signage that features a lifetime warranty.

Commerce Labs Directory Sign

A two man crew installed the sign in San Francisco and went back several weeks later to relocate the sign to the opposing wall so that it was readily visible when you got off the elevator vs. when you entered the suite.  The client was extremely pleased with the sign, especially once it was moved to the opposing wall!  As you can see from the picture above the lobby sign is both eye catching, modern, legible and edgy, while reflecting the banks branding and color scheme.
