Houston, TX – Cadaver Based Procedure Trainings in Dallas / Fort Worth Area

Posted in: Industry News

MEDIC, LLC was founded in 2021 by Ryan Hodnick, Joey Loehner, and Brad Kitts to provide Emergency Life and Limb Surgical Procedure training for healthcare providers using cadaveric specimens.

Why train on Cadavers?

Cadavers offer the student the ability to interact with real human tissue, not rubber mannequins. Specifically, fresh, never embalmed, cadaveric specimens offer the unique sensations of performing procedures on real tissue. The tissue reacts to instruments almost identical to live tissue. This allows for the most immersive, realistic, training experience available. The ability to perform procedures on specimens that react similarly to live tissue, but in a controlled environment, offers a superior learning experience over more common simulation type courses.

All of the cadaveric specimens used by MEDIC undergo extensive serology testing to ensure safety prior to use. Additionally, these specimens are all obtained from donors who wish to further Medical Education. Careful, ethical, use is critical to our mission. It is important to respect those who donated their body to further our training as clinicians.

Why MEDIC?

Medical Education and Dynamic Instruction Consultants (MEDIC), LLC is composed of three experienced clinicians. Between the group, they have more than 40 years of prehospital and Emergency Medicine experience. MEDiC was created to satisfy a perceived gap in the industry. Cadaver labs are not widely utilized in the training process for Physician Associate, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses and Paramedics. MEDIC was created to address the needs of the low resource practices of rural facilities and EMS. Our cadaver labs are specifically designed to educate on the life and limb saving procedures in these low resource situations. Additionally, we keep a low student to cadaver ratio to ensure that every student receives multiple procedure run evolutions to increase competency and retention.

Ryan Hodnick is a board certified Emergency Medicine Physician, Paramedic, and Fellowship Trained EMS Physician. He has worked extensively in the prehospital, flight, and EM environment over his career. With dozens of publications to his name, he is an expert at performing difficult tasks in suboptimal environments. To date, he has led well over two dozen cadaver labs, all with a focus on emergent procedures. Ryan is a gifted educator with an unparalleled ability to provide education tailored to any training and/or experience level. Although Ryan is an Emergency Board certified Physician, he chooses to work as a full time Flight Physician as he remains passionate about EMS.

Joey Loehner is a Registered Nurse and Paramedic with more than ten years of prehospital and in hospital experience. His career has had a heavy emphasis on flight and critical care medicine, with a substantial amount of time spent in Education and Management roles. He is passionate about the educational process, and focuses on making difficult topics simple. He spends most of the year traveling around the country teaching Airway and Ventilation Management. Joey has also led over a dozen cadaver labs.

Brad Kitts is a Registered Nurse and Paramedic with ten plus years of prehospital and in hospital experience. He has served in multiple leadership roles throughout the past decade which ultimately lead him to education. He is an experienced educator, and is an expert at Quality Improvement. He has a passion for education with a particular interest in Critical Care education.
