We’re a top-rated local Mercedes CL55 repair services shop in Fremont, CA. We also serve the greater East Bay Area, including Newark, Union City, Milpitas, and Sunol.

More Than An Oil Change

Let’s use a 2004 Mercedes CL55 AMG that recently came into the shop as a case study for the services Fremont Auto provides.  As part of every oil change package, we inspect a variety of systems on your vehicle to make sure it is both safe and to alert you to any issues that may not have yet become apparent.

General Overview

We look under and over each car to check for any glaring issues such as leaks, broken components, or other safety and durability concerns.  While performing a general overview of this CL55 we discovered an oil leak coming from an unknown location of which the customer was unaware.  As part of the service we cleaned up the oil residue so – if and when the car is back at a later date – we can better diagnose where the oil leak is originating from.

Brakes and Rotors

Brake pads and rotors are wear items for your vehicle.  It’s not a matter of if they’ll need to be replaced, but when.  During each oil change, we inspect these components to see how far along they are in their useful lifespan (roughly 60,000 miles of use).  If you have 3mm or less of brake pad material, we advise that you change your brake pads.  Most people won’t know their pads are worn until they start making a squealing or grinding noise, at which point you are well past this 3mm threshold and will damage other components – specifically your rotors – adding unnecessary expense to what would otherwise be a routine, cheap repair.

We also inspect your rotors separately to see if they need to be repaired or replaced.  Cause for concern would be if your rotors are grooved, wavy, or worn thin due to being beyond their intended lifespan.  If the rotors are grooved or wavy, we may be able to machine them smooth (called “turning the rotors”) and preserve the expense of replacing the component.  If they are damaged, warped beyond repair, or so thin we cannot safely turn them, though, then the rotors themselves will have to be replaced with new components.

Suspension

Much like braking components, your suspension wears over time.  This system contains several components that can fail independently and at different times/mileage compared to others.  We’ll look over your car’s suspension system to check for wear on any of the following items: control arm bushings, ball joints, tie rod ends, bearings, and broken springs or leaks from the hydraulic suspension itself.

Exhaust

After years of driving and the exhaust system heating and cooling during and after each time the car is driven, cracks will eventually form in the metal your exhaust system is made from.  This will cause an exhaust leak and is evidenced by a loud exhaust note, the noticeable smell of exhaust while driving, or even a check engine light if the leak causes an issue with the exhaust system’s O2 sensor.

Synopsis

After the oil change and inspection, we will present you with our findings.  If anything additional is found, we’ll explain to you how urgent each repair is needed as well as its cost.
