parks, a pond, a golf course, and more. It’s an extremely planned-out and well-maintained community, so they are very strict when it comes to city codes and signage codes. Franklin, TN is already pretty meticulous when it comes to city codes because it’s a very cute small town where the industry relies on tourism and community involvement, so they really regulate signage to maintain a look of charming old-fashioned storefronts. Westhaven takes sign regulations on an even higher level by not only requiring that signage designs be approved by the City of Franklin, but also by their own community board. It might seem like these regulations are limiting to sign makers, but actually it can be quite helpful to have limitations! It helps us know exactly what kind of materials we need to be looking for and how to create a clean-looking classic sign with them.

For this particular sign, we used a 15-Pound sheet of Urethane foam. This, after being painted and routed, looks like wood but is actually a lot more durable than wood. Unlike wood, which needs to recurring coats of sealant to protect it,  this material won’t degrade in the elements. At only 1 and 1/2 inches thick, the sign seems pretty flat against the wall, but the letters and logo design are routed out in bas-relief to give the sign a subtle hint of dimension to it.

We are very pleased with the way our simple but classic sign turned out for Eric Stewart Insurance Agency and were happy to work with the community of Westhaven!
