Fort Myers, FL – Create Beautiful Walkways – Pathways Through Your SWFL Garden

Posted in: Industry News

Peer Landscaping of Fort Myers, FLSome of Peer Landscaping’s favorite hardscape elements to build are walkways and pathways. After all, the best way to provide a convenient and safe way for people to walk through their outdoor space to get up close and personal with the lovely plants, trees, and flowers we’ve used in our landscape design is via these man-made design features. We want you to easily enjoy your beautiful Southwest Florida landscape.

People often use the terms walkway and pathway interchangeably when discussing landscape design, but there are some key differences between the two. They have different characteristics, and different purposes.

Pathways are usually fairly narrow and made of natural materials such as crushed gravel, mulch, or pine straw. Paths are often used to create a rustic or country look, and are designed to blend in with their natural surroundings. The purpose of a path is to connect different parts of the yard and they are used for accessing specific walkable areas of the garden. They are not usually built wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair or baby stroller.

Considered to be a true hardscape, walkways are usually made on a wider strip of ground of man-made materials such as bricks, pavers, or concrete. Because they are more of a design element unto themselves, walkways can be designed to match the style of your house or garden, whether it is traditional, modern, tropical or naturalistic. Walkways are used as a main path of travel, and are used to provide a safe and convenient way to move through the garden.

At Peer Landscaping of Fort Myers we take numerous things into account when we design a new walkway, because first and foremost, they need to be functional. Here are a few of the key functions we take into account:

1. Direct where you walk: Walkways are used to control the flow of people and direct foot traffic. After all, you don’t want your guests trampling all over low lying plants and flowers in your garden.
2. Accessibility: A well-designed walkway provides a safe and easy way to navigate through your gardens and lawns, preventing people from tripping on uneven ground for example.
3. Create Aesthetic Appeal: A beautiful walkway adds visual interest to your Yard. They can be used to create different eye-catching areas of focus in your garden, or to link different parts of your outdoor space which may include elements such as a jacuzzi or pool.
4. Durability: We always make sure our walkways and pathways are made of durable materials that can withstand both the heavy downpours we get all summer long here in Lee County, as well as heavy foot traffic.
5. Rain drainage: If you’ve got areas that get flooded when it rains, we can design walkways that help channel water away from certain parts of the yard to help prevent the erosion running water can cause.
6. Low maintenance: We create walkways that are easy for you to keep clean and maintain.
