Sign Tips – How to buy a retractable or roll-up banner stand

Posted in: Industry News

Banner stands take banners to a new level!

They present a more professional image and they can be placed where they will have the most impact. They are the bread and butter of tradeshow displays but can also be used in presentations, showrooms, reception areas, stores… anywhere you want your message in front of your customer.

But how do you decide which banner stand is right for your purpose? As with most products, the choices can be daunting. Here are some questions to ask when you’re trying to figure out which one to buy.

How often will the banner be used? This is a critical question. The quality and durability of the roll-up mechanism is the key difference between inexpensive roll up banners and the higher quality ones. How often you use the roll-up mechanism should guide you to the right price point. If you only use the banner stand a few times a year or if you leave it up most of the time, you can get by with a less expensive model. If the banner stand is taken up and down frequently it is worth investing in a quality banner stand.

Do you change your graphics periodically? The higher quality retractable banner stands are designed so you can easily change the banner on the stand. Less expensive ones make it more difficult or impossible. Having the option to change graphics makes the banner stand more versatile and you may find yourself using it more often than you thought.

How tall does the banner need to be? Standard heights – for maximum impact – range from 78-82″. For versatility and / or shorter banners there are telescopic roll-up banner stands available. Consider the veiwing distance and placement of the banner stand when considering size. If you want it to stand out in a sea of graphics at a tradeshow, bigger is better. If the banner is standing where customers will view it up close, shorter might work.

Spend your marketing dollars wisely and choose the right banner stand for the job. If you use the banner stand frequently, it’s worth the investment. If you only use it occassionally, an expensive one could be just the ticket.
