Signage FAQ – How long does it take for you to complete my order?

Posted in: Industry News

There’s no pat answer to this question due to the unique nature of every sign but there are some general guidelines that will help you in planning for your new sign. The two factors that have a significant impact on the time it takes to produce a sign are the complexity of the sign and the amount of design work to be done.

Most projects requiring digital graphics can be done in 3-5 days whether mounted on pvc, banner material, or a host of other substrates. Some signs require permits from the city or county or approval from your landlord and it all takes time.  Many signs must be hand-crafted one piece at a time: dimensional letters, neon or electrical signs, ADA (Braille signs), monument signs, architectural signs, vehicle wraps, etc. Hand-crafted signs can take as much as 3 weeks or more for very unusual signs. Material availability may play into the equation as well. There are over 50 different substrates available and most sign companies do not stock all of them, in part, because some have a “shelf life” and some don’t have a high enough demand. Sign company suppliers deliver quickly but it can add 2 or 3 days to the time frame.

Most signs require custom work by a graphic artist to one degree or another. Many customers, understandably, don’t have artwork that is “sign ready” which means the graphic artist must re-size or re-create it so the resolution is not lost. Without “sign ready” artwork, an hour or two of design work is pretty typical for most signs, a vehicle wrap could take 4-6 hours, and a large architectural design could take even more.  The design process for the more complex signs usually takes some back and forth with the client to get the artwork just right.

Your sign is an important investment of time and money. A custom sign is a cost-effective way to build your brand and grow your business.
