Bronze Memorial Plaque Honoring Fallen Officer Darren Goforth for Legends Run in Houston, TX

Project: Bronze Memorial Plaque Honoring Officer Darren GoForth

Location: Houston, TX

Client: Legends Run

On August 28, the city of Houston was shocked by the attack on Deputy Darren Goforth, a Houston police officer who was shot no less than 15 times in the back while pumping gas at a Cypress gas station.  Goforth was a 10 year veteran of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, and left behind a wife and two children.

Since the tragic incident, thousands have returned to the gas station where Goforth was ambushed and killed to leave flowers, messages in chalk, poems, gifts, and even an anonymous Purple Heart Medal as a memorial to his life, and the city of Houston has raised over $300,000 in support of the GoForth family.  In an even larger tribute, over 11,000 law enforcement officers from across Texas showed up to honor the fallen deputy at his funeral, and thousands more from across the country sent their thoughts and prayers to the grieving family.

The city has come together to memorialize Deputy Goforth, and, come October, a more permanent memorial will be established, so that his memory may be preserved for years to come.  Having decided to rename one of their parks as the Goforth Park in honor of Deputy Darren Goforth, the Legends Run community will honor the fallen deputy with a bronze plaque, which Signs of Success has been greatly honored to design.

At the start of October, a ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at the entrance to the park where the bronze plaque will be featured, serving as one of many tributes to Deputy Goforth.

The etched bronze plaque, pictured above, measures 8 1/2’’ by 11’’ and is a quarter inch think. After the design is etched on to the plaque with a laser engraver, the plaque will be mounted on to an aluminum stand, designed to be displayed at a 45 degree angle on top of a welded safe plate.  The laser etching allows for precise details, particularly in the Harris County Sheriff’s badge featured at the top of the design. This portion of the plaque was created as a replica to what a true deputy’s badge would look like, and features all of the intricate details, thanks to this form of laser engraving.

We could not be more honored to memorialize this fallen hero through our work.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the GoForth family and the Harris County Sheriff’s Office in this most difficult time.

“Darren’s life was not taken in vain. Tonight, as we watch over the sleeping residents of Harris County, or as our radio rings out, we will answer that call in Darren’s honor”

-Harris County Sheriff, Ron Hickman
