Beverlywood, CA – Monument Sign Update for Park

Posted in: Client Examples

Our client, Beverlywood Homes Association, owns and maintains multiple parks in the neighborhood of Beverlywood in West Los Angeles. One of the parks in the neighborhood is Circle Park, which is undergoing remodeling. Their contractor had installed a new monument sign base for them and they asked us for some dimensional letters to go on the monument sign.

As you can see from the photo, these are non-illuminated dimensional letters. A park is not open past sunset so having an illuminated sign wouldn’t be necessary like it would be for a restaurant or a retail store. The font we used is a sans serif font with thin strokes so it is easy to read. We went through different colors during proofing, but the client decided on a brown color as it would match the rest of the monument sign while contrasting well with the color of the painted concrete for easy readability.

The letters were flat-cut from 3/8″ thick aluminum and painted per the color requested by the client. The thicker the material of the letters, the more dimension you get which is why we used 3/8″ thick material. Although most substrates look the same after they’ve been painted, metal is of a higher quality than plastics so the client went with the more high-end option of painted aluminum.

The dimensional letters were mounted flush to the concrete monument sign with studs and silicone. This is done by drilling holes into the concrete based on the stud location on the letters, filling the holes with silicone, and pushing the studs into the holes. We always use a pattern when installing dimensional letters to make sure that all of the holes are drilled in the proper position.

For most exterior signs we stud mount using silicone to assure durability. These letters will need to withstand many different weather conditions so stud mounting is the best form of installation.
