Chatsworth, CA – Outdoor Sign Update for Church

West Hills Church contacted us for a few updates on their existing monument sign. The first thing they wanted to change was the information that was displayed on the sign. As you can tell from the before photo, the faces had been up for quite a while and were in need of an update. The first step was to move the name of the church from the temporary face and put it on the actual sign in a permanent way. We did this by making dimensional letters from 3/8″ thick black acrylic. We used 3/8″ thick acrylic because acrylic needs to be at least 3/8″ thick to be stud mounted, which is how we mounted these letters to the concrete monument sign. For exterior signs, we want to stud mount them as they are going to be going through different weather conditions and we want to make sure that they are going to hold up.

The previous sign faces had rails for replaceable letters, but they decided to go a more permanent route. After the new sign face design was finalized, we plotted the letters from black vinyl and applied them onto a translucent white acrylic panel. We used translucent acrylic because the sign is internally illuminated. You can see that we also replaced the existing frame and hinges, along with the clear face that goes on top of the lettering. We used clear Lexan because Lexan is a UL listed polycarbonate, and this is an electrical sign.

We also fixed up the windows on the steeple part of the sign. We replaced the “glass” on the windows with new white acrylic and repainted the window frames. While we were in the process of removing the existing faces and putting the new ones in, we also replaced a ballast and 5 bulbs. The sign looks as good as new and is sure to attract many new members.
