Charlotte, NC – Digital Sign Boards – Wayfinding, Menu’s @ CLT Airports

Posted in: Industry News

Voices come from above. You know it cannot be good news: “Due to continual maintenance, flight 479 to Chicago is delayed.”

It is 4 p.m., and you now are assured of an entire day spent inside the airport. In past times, this meant endless hours of reading and crossword puzzles. However, follow one traveler, and you will discover all the ways airport signs are now updating this experience.

You might search for answers with the airline desk, yet that will not change the truth that the flight is delayed. Therefore, you casually walk to the closest flight data board, in which that day’s flights and airport information and news prominently are exhibited.

5:58 p.m.

It is time to grab a meal. There are an abundance of restaurant selections, yet it is hard to find out where you want to go. All lines at the fast food eateries are too long, the lounge that has the low lights is too costly, and the bar is cramped. All you want is a decent meal in comfort. That is when an ad runs across a kiosk within the distance. It says: “Comfort. Quality. Chattanooga Grill.” You go to the kiosk to view that the Chattanooga Grill is situated inside Terminal 3.

You never have been to Terminal 3. Thankfully, the airport put in wayfinding floor graphics that lead the way. Just follow those colored lanes to the destination.

7:46 p.m.

It’s the final stretch. You almost have made it to boarding. While you briskly walk toward the gate, a bright wall catches your eye. You halt, and start walking again. That wall changes colors. You have been inside the airport for a long period of time; however, you know you are not just seeing things. You move your arm, and that big display follows your direction. Other travelers soon are joining in, and creating an engaging work of art upon an LED screen. It’s a lot better than any crossword puzzle!

8:20 p.m.

It is almost time for you to board. Congrats! You made it!
