Oakland, CA – Professional Home Organization: Destress one Room at a time!

Posted in: Industry News

Your home should feel like a peaceful sanctuary, a place you want to relax in after a long day at work. However, all too often our lives become chaotic and so do our homes.  If piles of paperwork dirty dishes are soon overtaking your home, it may become overwhelming. Before it does, you can distress and organize your home by doing it room at a time. These tips will help you get started.

Designate your spaces. Decide which room you want to de-stress first. Consider where you like to unwind in the evenings. Do you want it to have a reading nook or a designated area for another hobby? This shouldn’t be a room where you pay bills, plan schedules, or live on social media. This is a room for you to find peace and serenity.

Declutter the room. It may seem overwhelming when you begin decluttering a room, but just start in one area and only do it for 15 minutes at a time. If you designated the den as your relaxing area, begin by through piles of paper, magazines that no one reads anymore, and your children’s toys.  Place all the clutter in one area and begin sorting it. Create different piles for keep, get rid of, and move to a different room. Move your piles promptly before they become cluttered elsewhere.

Clean the room thoroughly. This is the time to deep clean the room. Besides just quickly dusting or wiping surfaces and furniture, take the time to clean under the furniture as well. This may mean you need to remove the couches and tables temporarily to vacuum or sweep underneath. If you have a wood floor, thoroughly mop it with a cleaner that will make it shine and leave it smelling fresh.

Bring natural light and elements in. Natural light makes a room look more spacious.  You can get that effect by adding sheer curtains. This way, you still have privacy when you need it, but the sunlight beams through.  Adding different color light bulbs affects the room too.  Warmer bulbs create a relaxing vibe perfect for a living room, bedroom, or a den. If you want to take it a step further, paint it a relaxing shade of color.
