Oakland, CA Professional Home Organization; Kids Rooms and how to organize Toys!

Posted in: Industry News

My client Michelle recently moved to a new home with her family. She works a full-time job, and she is frustrated to find that her new home seems chaotic and disorganized.

It’s often challenging to organize furniture and keep it looking fresh when you’re working, and your children are running around constantly. This is when you need some good planning and some personal organization tips.  We all relate to feeling crazy and never having enough time to de-clutter. Sometimes, you need a “Mary Poppins” guiding you through the process, and showing you how to implement an organizational system. These are some of the organizational tips we shared with Michelle.

Decide what you can get rid of in each of the children’s rooms and play room. Have each child donate some toys they no longer play with to charity. Even getting rid of a few boxes from each room will free up some space. Keep your children’s bedrooms and play areas cheerful and fun. Consider having a chalkboard on one wall for hours of fun, with very little clean-up. Encourage children to help clean and organize the rooms from a very young age.Teach your children how to organize their own rooms by providing them several bins and totes. Help them sort their toys into appropriate piles and store them in those containers. Label them so your children will know what’s in each one without dumping containers. Put a few bookshelves in your child’s room. Fill one with books and fill the other one with puzzles and board games.Use Ziploc bags to store small game pieces so that they don’t fly all around the game box. Stack board games and puzzles neatly on the shelves. Use hammocks to store stuffed animals and dolls so they aren’t cluttering the floor. Spend at least 15 minutes a day organizing and cleaning the children’s rooms and play areas with the kids. This way, the system will stay in place.

Ask for a professional to help with de-cluttering and organization if you become too overwhelmed. Michelle loved our design feature, as well as the organizational tips we shared. It allows her to transform the children’s bedrooms and play areas all at once or in stages when time permits.
