Affordable Signage: Designing It In . . .

July 29, 2010

At present we are working with a property management company to update a 100 plus commercial tenant building. Because tenants come and go the management company wants to select a custom design that is easily updated, yet ADA compliant. Our solution is to use a design where the Braille identifies the room numbers but vinyl lettering identifies the name of the business. The idea is that new tenants will simply have their “name” replaced when they occupy a space that was formerly used by their predecessor.

We as the sign manufacturer will not need to reorder the entire sign when there is a change in tenancy and will focus only on the very affordable replacement of vinyl lettering. At SignWorks we work with our clients to come up with affordable solutions to everyday problems.

Fleet Graphics: A Cut Vinyl Solution

July 27, 2010

You’re considering wrapping your fleet of service or delivery vehicles but think it may be a drain on the budget. Well this may not be the case. Cut vinyl, especially if you are using a simply non-photo realistic design, may be just the answer you seek. When you choose a stock color that is not being created using inks, you will realize a tremendous saving in the material costs versus the production of a pictorial image. For simple lettering featuring a solid color background where the logo and letters can be added as surface mount decals, the cost saving may be worth it. We have seen several utility vehicles and box trucks, where artfully designed lettering and logos, have given the vehicle a wrap-like look, all at a tremendous saving over a typical full vehicle wrap. Check out the example and see if you agree!

Banner Stands: The Choices Are Many

July 22, 2010

So you have the perfect banner in mind for your tradeshow or exhibit and have worked hard to design it so that your message is clear and appeals to your target audience.  Because you desire portability and reuse you have decided to add a banner stand and will need to pick one that fits your requirements.  You may have decided based on previous tradeshows and booth set-ups that it needs to be a two-sided banner, so that your message is displayed from both the front and back.  Your choices may include retract-ability.  All of these considerations, as well as the width and height of the banner, and whether or not you want the banner sized for a table-top display, will affect your choices.  Banner stands range not only in size but also from economy to premium models, so the many choices will need to be considered carefully.

You Want It When?

July 20, 2010

While we live in a deadline driven society certain aspects of the sign business do require appropriate planning. Typically, “Rush Charges” may apply when a project is critical and needs to be placed ahead of other less time sensitive ones, or if out of area shipping needs to be expedited in order to meet a tight deadline.

The truth is that many sign manufacturing companies actually outsource some of their work. Many items, including banner stands, because of the various types and sizes, certain types of dimensional and channel letters, plaques and a host of other products such as ADA Braille beaded signs, may need to be ordered from other suppliers and wholesalers. To the extent that these items can be sourced locally, a shorter delivery window may be possible depending on whether the project is simple or complex. However, if pricing is a consideration and the supplier is out of state, a longer turn-around time may be necessary.

At SignWorks we make every effort to be efficient with your time and ours and we only pass along expedited shipping costs when they apply. We will work with you to schedule your project to meet reasonable deadline considerations and make every effort to control the cost of your project. Our typical turn-around is three to five business days, and in the case of simply banners where we are provided with existing art, can turn the project around in as little as a day.

Reception Area Lobby Signs

July 1, 2010

The typical reception area sign will include the corporate logo and tag line if any but other considerations include the following:

1. The location
2. Size or square footage
3. Mounting surface
4. Illumination

Usually, if there is a lobby station or desk, then the wall immediately behind it represents the ideal location for the sign. You will want to choose the area that visitor’s and customers see when they first enter your facility. It should be easy to read and not overpowering. There should also be enough empty or negative space around the signs so that the name and logo elements are prominent and visible. In general, the size should be about two thirds of the width of the wall. Most are centered relative to the wall but, depending on the design, it may look better offset toward the entrance itself.

Some reception area signs are directly attached to the wall, while others are attached using metal stand-offs to give a slightly different look. And, if the budget allows for an illuminated sign, then this can be used to grab even more attention!
