New Shopping Plaza in San Leandro
San Leandro Chamber member David Irmer of the Innisfree Cos. has announced he will develop a new 28,000-square-foot shopping center, known as the Village Marketplace, on East 14th Street that will include a Fresh & Easy grocery store, Peet’s Coffee & Tea,Chipotle, AT&T store and a full-service restaurant.
“The greater goal is to start to create an established architectural identity for downtown,”Irmer said.
The city council has given the project an initial nod of approval. Construction is slated to start as early as May 2012.
Like Irmer’s office development, the three-buildingCreeksidePlaza, the Village Marketplace is part of a larger, long-term development strategy the city ofSan Leandroestablished in 2007.
David Johnson, President of the San Leandro, stated that “this is a very positive step for San Leandroand the business community. Combined with the recent announcement by Chamber member Patrick Kennedy of OSI Soft to deploy a state of the art fiber optic infrastructure designed to attract new business inSan Leandro means that the business community is on the rebound in 2012.”
