Bathroom Remodeling Questions | Ceramic Tile Shower Or Fiberglass?

December 15, 2009

When remodeling your bathroom from scratch one of the questions that will arise is what type of shower or bath to put in.  If you’re going for a shower or a shower/bath combo, you have to decide what type of shower you’re going to install.

Typically it’s either a ceramic tile shower installation or it’s a fibreglass shower.  And each has it’s advantages and disadvantages.

For example, some pros of a ceramic tile shower are:

  • Looks very nice
  • Long lasting – durability

But there are also some cons too, like:

  • Harder to keep clean
  • Can have leaks because it’s not made of one piece of fibreglass with no seams
  • Can be much more costly

And conversely, fibreglass has its own pros and cons.  The pros:

  • Inexpensive
  • Easy to clean
  • Stain resistant

And the cons:

  • Not as durable
  • Not as attractive or elegant

So both have their ups and downs.  The important thing is to make sure to choose the right shower for you.  If you would like help with your bathroom installation or would like advice please call us today for a free initial consultation.

Bathroom Remodeling Tip | New Model Fans Don’t Squeak Or Shriek!

December 8, 2009

Bathroom Remodeling Tip

Use a quiet model fan to keep the noise level down.

Are you thinking about remodeling your bathroom?  Our tip guide is designed to give you a few extra pointers that can really add that extra touch.

When you walk into your bathroom and turn on the switch for the fan does it sound like a banshee shrieking?

We’ve all probably experienced that at least once,  maybe in a restaurant or in our own homes.  But you don’t have to have a fan that makes noise.  You don’t have to live with the shrieking banshee.

The bathroom is already very ambient.  There are typically painted walls, mirrors, tile flooring, ceramic bathtubs and maybe even marble counter tops.  Couple that with high ceilings and a pin drop becomes audible.  So that’s part of why a small squeak in a fan gets amplified to a shriek!

They have newer models of fans that you can have installed that are extremely quiet and most have standard warranties on their products.

If you have any questions about replacing squeaky fans in your bathroom(s) you can give us a call.  If you think you may really have a shrieking banshee in your bathroom, then you may need the GhostBusters instead!

Use Sound Proofing To Deaden Bathroom Noises And Keep You Sleeping Soundly

Are you thinking about remodeling your bathroom?  Our tip guide is designed to give you a few extra pointers that can really add that touch.

Do you have people in your household that get up early?  Maybe you are the early riser in the family?  If you do have people in your house that wake up early you can really make a few improvements to really quiet a lot of the sounds that come from the bathroom.

For one, the type of drain you use and piping.  Certain types of piping create more or less noise.  If you are in the early stage of your remodel you can still upgrade your plumbing and piping to cut down on noise.

Another way to cut down on noise from inside the bathroom itself is with extra insulation or perhaps even some professional sound proofing techniques.  If you are creating a dream bathroom and you want to make sure all of the sound stays contained it can be done, but perhaps at a price not worth it.  But there are a few things like insulation and piping that can make a difference that’s worth it.

Yes, the vanity mirror is very important and the most used and the most useful.  But you can use other mirrors in your bathroom to expand the size of the room.  Placing mirrors on the walls adjacent from each other creates the infinity reflection seen in some restaurants and tricks the mind’s sense of depth perception.  Using mirrors in the right way can help make a small bathroom feel a lot bigger.
