Step 1 – Article marketing
You need to blog regularly, at least once a week. You need to make sure your blog is on your website and you have an RSS feed. WordPress websites come standard with feeds and blogging capabilites. Blog about the jobs your working on and be specific, including the name of the service or product that you sold and to whom you sold it.
Step 2 - SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
Onsite SEO is the practice of adding meta tags (keywords) on your website’s pages in order to maximize your searchability. Each page in your website should have a seperate set of meta tags: title, description and keywords. Old websites are harder to edit and can require hours of work and require a specialit to edit your website properly. WordPress websites have plugins that are basically like apps for smart phones. You can add a plugin call ‘All In One SEO’ that enables you to easily edit the meta tags on your website’s pages and posts.
Step 3 - Social Media Marketing
Once you’ve written an article and published it to your blog, you want to spread it around. Import your articles to your social media profiles, like Facebook, that allow you to import an RSS feed. Every time you post to your blog it will automatically feed and post to your social media profiles. This further spreads your marketing message as well as helps to further cement you at the top of the search engines. It also build links that point back to your article on your website, helping you establish your website as the source of valuable and popular content. The sites that can’t import your blog are still useful and you should log in and tweet it, digg it, stumble it, etc.
Step 4 – Services Section
Creating a services section of your website can greatly increase your searchablility. Each web page has a limited amount of keywords that it can target. For this reason you want to create a separate page on your website for each product or service that you offer. Each page should be optimized with keywords specific to that service or product, making sure to include geographic terms. After you’ve created your pages write a separate article in your blog about each service or product. On the page for each service add a link to your blog articles that are about the particular service or product.
Step 5 - Link Building
Once your website it optimized and built out for maximum searchability you want to build links in from other places. You want other websites to link to you and not the other way around. One way to build links in is to become a contributor online and write thoughtful and helpful articles or tips on sites like associated content, free press release, yahoo answers, etc. The sites that allow you to add links that the robots will follow are the ones that you’re looking for becuase ones that have the ‘nofollow’ tag won’t do you any good on the search engines. When you link try to find your top keywords in your article and create a text link where those words naturally appear in your article.
